FREE!! Landlord
Workshop in Kent, Ohio,
on
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 at the City of Kent Council
Chambers. Click
here for more information.
Ohio’s
Fair Housing laws have been weakened by recent court decisions, and
we need YOUR help to restore the laws so that they will be equal
with federal regulations.
Fair Housing Contact Service is
working with the Ohio Coalition
to Restore Fair Housing (OCRFH) to advocate for the
necessary changes in the Ohio Law. At this time, we are asking all
of the friends, family, and partners of Fair Housing Contact Service
to join OCRFH in calling on the Ohio Legislature
to pass legislation to restore Ohio’s fair housing law and once
again make it equivalent to the federal Fair Housing Act. Doing
so not only protects Ohio residents from housing discrimination, but
it also ensures that complaints filed by Ohioans are decided in
Ohio, and it keeps Ohio from losing out on millions of dollars in
federal support for this important work.
We
ask that you as an individual, as well as the organization you work
with, sign on with
Ohio Coalition to Restore Fair Housing.

FHCS’s 43rd
Annual Luncheon was held October 23, 2008. Thanks to all who
attended! Present were representatives from local government,
community members, business professionals, and people involved in
all aspects of housing and community development. This year’s
“Spirit of Fair Housing” Awardees were long-time volunteer and
late Board President, Rillis O. Moneypenny, Jr. and 2008 FHCS
volunteer Cicely Bennett. This year’s event titled, “Moving
Forward, Looking Back: Forty Years of Fair Housing,” offered a
retrospective of the accomplishments the Fair Housing movement has
made since the inception of the Fair Housing Law in 1968 and a
look to the work ahead of us to realize our common dream of a
better future for the generations yet to come. The keynote
address was presented by Deputy Chief, Timothy Moran of the US
Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, Housing and Civil
Enforcement Section. At the close of the event, FHCS Executive
Director, Tamala Skipper, announced that the agency received an
award from the US Department of Housing & Urban Development for
$275,000.00 to fund the agency’s work under the Fair Housing
Initiative Program – Private Enforcement Initiative.
